PRODUCT & PACKAGING

Our luxury fabrications & finishings are mindfully sourced and of the highest quality and Muma looks to demonstrate that story, quality and transparency are both of equal importance and achievability.

We endeavour to prioritize natural fibres or biodegradable materials if and where possible through our printing, product, and packaging process, and we choose to print digitally to lower our environmental impact by means of placement printing to minimise wastage and off-cuts and reduced ink and water consumption.

Muma’s garments are picked and packed by hand, shipped in compostable bags, and our orders arrive in recyclable boxes, manufactured in Australia and FSC Certified.

Swing tags are recyclable, held to the garment by organic rope, and our hygiene stickers are plant-derived.

Muma’s enjoy minimal to no wastage in low MOQ's and our process for excess: any garment linings are created from unused or waste fabrics, signature one-off tailored pieces, and further off-cuts are fabricated into accessories and packaging moments, ensuring little to no waste fabrics remain in our production. If there is any remnant fabric, it is used for future sampling.

As is, Muma has such low wastage that we don't occupy enough to donate or re-house fabrics as we would like to do in future.

CERTIFICATIONS

In many cases the limit values for the STANDARD 100 go beyond national and international requirements.

GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC

ORGANIC SILKS / COTTONS
Recognized as the world's leading processing standard for sustainable production of textiles made from natural fibers from organic farming. It guarantees that the entire textile supply chain has met the environmental and socially responsible requirements, without using fertilizers, pesticides and, harmful chemicals from the cultivation of silkworms to the production (weaving, dyeing, printing, finishing and labelling) of the fabric in ethical work conditions.

FABRICS

Vegan silk is apart of Muma's origin story, and since we have only sourced natural, and sustainable fibers. As we continue to explore the world, we are grateful and committed to upholding the suggestions of our partners whose research and recommendations to source sustainable and certified materials, with low environmental impact continues to advance our product, season on season as the world shifts and technology changes.

CUPRO

Muma uses OK Marine Biodegradable Certified Cupro, made in Japan. A fabrication that has defined our many collections since inception, cupro is a “regenerated cellulose” fibre made from cotton waste, said to have all the positive qualities of silk; silky-smooth and drapes just like it, without the use of animal by-product. It is plant based, known as 'Vegan Silk.'

SILKS

Muma uses biodegradable, eco-friendly and organic GOTS-Certified Mulberry silk yarn that is 100% cruelty free and CO2 neutral, produced using environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing using zero pesticides and no chemical substances. Organic silk production requires low water and energy usage and generates low waste. What remains is repurposed and resold. Gots Certified Organic Silk is the sustainable option to traditional silk, obtained in a humane fashion allowing the silkworm to fully develop and continue its life after leaving the cocoon behind, and is aligned with our supplier code of conduct. The silkworms are fed organic Mulberry leaves, grown biodynamically without any type of contamination, ensuring the silk is pesticide and fertiliser free. Organic silk is also removed of heavy metals and chemical substances.
