PURPOSE & PHILOSOPHY

Muma brings life to the senses that transport us in a tangible expression of the seasons.
A brand that translates a connected experience into the world of fashion, Muma was conceived through the nostalgic lens of memory.
Inspired by the generations of women before us, its emergence prompts a new generation in fashion, with a contemporary approach to design, sustainability
& fabrication. Muma as a concept is at once familiar and exciting. Muma World is a boutique, limited edition, and limited release label, designed in Australia.

Led by Creative Director, Saskia Wotton, Muma began as a personal reflection on place but has since expanded to encompass the collective experience of connection to our seasonal world.

Whether through the first hazy heat wave of summer or by way of a crisp autumnal bite carried on the breeze, a palpable sense of change is universally sensed at the cusp of each season.

It’s that edge of change, the energy of evolution, that we capture and emulate in our garments.

You are invited to explore the concept that fashion, and ultimately, humanity are governed by the natural world around us, and each collection accompanies the timeless story of the seasons, intended to return to, year after year.

Led by the values of our conscience and the language of our environment, Muma resonates with any time, place or destination – such is the way of memory, sensation, and imagination: to travel and transcend, something we hope to evoke with our pieces.

Accordingly, each collection is released concurrently with the yearly bloom of flora and endemic fauna in featured regions across the world, highlighting particular regions or settings and those that exist within them. Concepts are connected by the story of the seasons that guide the colour, patterns and prints of the garments.

Muma invites the the wearer, to rediscover the world around them from which the garments are inspired and created, and so we must begin with sustaining the visions of our purpose, in empowering environment, technology & sustainability.

To be inspired by the world is also to protect it.

Muma as a new luxury brand was created with this practice to guide all else. Originally fabricated from responsibly-sourced vegan materials, Muma as a brand is now established in product, process and production, and so we aim to ensure we can continue to learn from, and be inspired by environment, and technology by prioritising sustainability and choosing only responsible fabrications certified as Oeko-Tex, removed from harmful chemicals & substances.

Our Japanese Cupro is OK Marine Biodegradable, and our responsibly-sourced GOTS organic silk prioritises Animal Welfare, non-GMO practices and a reduced carbon footprint.
As Muma moves forward into the world, we continue to be guided by innovation & technology in process & practice.

We highlight peculiar and particular moments in the natural world, unique and often rare flora and fauna, abstracting colour and scale to create an expressive moment of focus. We encourage a celebration of identity, diversity and personal style, as much as we encourage sustainability in ourselves and our wearers.

Unwavering through the changing seasons, the ‘Evergreens’ range is our core and continual range; the constant. Inspired by colours forever in bloom, season after season, Green, Creme and Tan feature in every season, across as new, or core styles.

All of Muma's collections are designed for versatility, though particularly Evergreens, to give greater longevity to all collection pieces, allowing the wearer to pair back new styles with previous styles, patterns, prints, or jacquard pieces, intended to reduce our impression alongside our limited edition and numbered pieces. Life itself is mirrored by the garments, so it is befitting that they are creating with impact in mind, and intended as pieces to correspond with and return to – year after year.

Muma is a multi-sensory, multi-dimensional brand that demands the highest and most necessary standard of narrative and integrity and intention in fashion.
